Meg McKinlay
STIRRING UP STORIES
What’s in a writer’s big, shiny pot? The ingredients for a story, of course! But why is there a Christmas tree in the tale of a small rhinoceros? A wind-up duck on a bicycle journey? An enormous bear in a bedtime story? Fremantle-based author Meg McKinlay has published over twenty books for children, and some of them are full of surprises. Join Meg as she pulls ingredients from her pot and shares some of her much-loved picture books. Laughter is guaranteed, but also food for thought. Maybe sometimes it’s the ‘wrong’ ingredients that make the best stories!

Shivaun Plozza
SHIPWRECKS AND STORIES
In this lively session, Shivaun recounts the unbelievable, real life shipwreck story that inspired key events in her latest middle grade novel, Summer of Shipwrecks. Having grown up on Victoria’s infamous Shipwreck Coast, Shivaun is well versed in the many deadly shipwrecks from this region but it’s the story of the Loch Ard that really captured her interest as a child. Shivaun will discuss the ins and outs of using this real life event to create a book about bravery, friendship and treasure hunting.
